        The Detroit Auto Show is all about the latest and best concept cars of the year. These cars display beautiful, sleek exterior, and loud, roaring high horsepower engines. The only problem with theses cars is that, while they are very impressive, very few of them ever reach the production lines. This year has hopes of changing that fact. This year the big focus is on the newest hybrids, electric, and extremely efficient economy cars, that not only are pleading to the environment but also to the average family budget. Honda and Toyota are said to shift they're focus to smaller more compact cars,  and flowing their lead, Ford is promising an impressive new model for they're 2011 focus. The corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) is being pushed to a 35.5 miles per gallon minimum by 2016. This is causing the big companies to sell their smaller cars to a wider market of people crossed the country. With these new regulations we should be seeing many more environment friendly cars for these main companies.

book blog

The book i read was called Car Trouble by Jeanne DuPrau, this book is essentially about a high school graduate, Duff Pringle, who is in search of a job in California. The only problem is that his car is, to say the least,  out of date. He owns and drives a old Ford station wagon for about a hundred miles and then it breaks down. As he goes to get it repaired, the mechanic says it will take 3-4 days to get his car fixed. This is bad news for Duff who only has two weeks to get to California. But  Duff soon finds an add that is asking for someone to drive a car to Saint Louis and drop it off. Duff calls in for the add and says he can do the job. Before Duff sets off to Saint Louis, and while was waiting in the parking lot of the hotel, he meets Stu, a hitchhiker who happens to be going to California also. the two set off toward the west coast, but there journey is far from dull, they meet up with superber singers, hard going thugs, and a very likeable dog. This book as you may know is fiction, it is a story of a young man and his journey crossed the country. The book was written with very nice flow, this made it very easy to lose your self in. It was also not very challenging to read (it is a young adult level book), this made it wonderful for me because i could breeze right through with out having to slow down to understand the text. although this book was a little less about exotic cars, and a little more about the development of a young man and his friend, it was still centered round a car. And in that respect it represented my topic, it  did not however lead to any further knowledge about my topic. Before i started reading this book i knew it was not really going to help me with understanding my topic that much more then i already did. Because of a lack of nonfiction stories about my topic i chose Car Trouble in hopes that i would at least get a good fiction story about cars (which i suppose is better then no story about cars). In the end i learned about how cars need to be placed high on the priorites list because with out them we whould have much more trouble getting from place to place. Also the worth of the car is more about where it can take you and less about how much you spent on it.


     I apoligize for the lack of lenth but the book i read was hard to fit into the criteria of this weeks blog, and it did not aply to some of the questios.

exotic cars

I chose this topic because, to be perfectly honest, I thought it would be easy, and come on its super cars I get to research! It turned out that I was at best, off the mark. This topic has been fairly challenging, it’s a lot harder to fine engaging information for this topic, and then I thought. I have learned a lot about a lot of different aspects surrounding this topic, things ranging from the cost of these super cars, to what’s next on the expanding science of environmentally friendly super cars. The most interesting car I have learned about is the Bugatti Veyron, it also happens to be the world’s most expensive car, it runs about $1,700,000! I am still wondering how- if it is possible -we can develop energy efficient super cars , and if there is a future in that field. There are still layers and layers of information to be discovered in the world of super cars, it won’t be easy to get to but I’ll be trying my hardest to get to it for the rest of the semester.

Pulling us further apart

This world is a world of extremes; extreme technology, extreme expansion, extreme speed, and extreme wealth and poverty, and the fact that there is such discrepancy between the rich and the poor is the essence of the essay. A question one might seek to answer is how we can succeed in closing the gap between the extremely wealthy and the extremely poor, and what factors are pulling us further apart?  More specifically are super cars pulling us further apart or do they in any way bring us closer together? Take a Lamborghini for example, a top of the line super car that can retail for anywhere from $250,000 to $1,600,000. What if that money could be put toward clothing people living in extreme poverty? Is then the 450,000 dollars (average cost of a new Lamborghini) worth more when spent on improving the standard of life for a person living in extreme poverty, rather than purchasing a new super car? This consumer culture we find ourselves in is far to clouding for us to see the real value of our actions. If a billionaire can make money off of people and families living in rags and starving then what difference does it make how he spends that money? And is there even anyone on which to put the blame for this horrendous display of modern greed? Certainly not the individual, because he is only doing what this day and age has conditioned him do. His soul porpoise is to succeed in any way possible, and the semi ancient definition of success is money and wealth. So then we arrive to square one: where does the root of this problem lie? The simplest answer is that it lies in the centuries and centuries of the human race in which we have lost the view of our brother as equal. No matter how anyone might look at someone else a startling fact is always bleeding its way to the surface: we always see each other as above or below our peers. And until we can lose that way of perceiving the world, we will never move ahead as a whole.

                 The Lamborghini is a testament to this theory. Take for example if you were a proud owner of a new Lamborghini, you undoubtedly would feel more elite, entitled, and controlling then every one of the poor people without an overly extravagant car. To put it simply; this thought pattern would reinforce your spending behavior, and it would seem almost wasteful for you to have spent the money in any other way, especially in a way that would have essentially no benefit toward you.  You want something that sets you apart from the average and puts you higher on the totem pole of life, so you spend money on things that allow this to take place, and people recognize you as better. This formula is the same for more than Lamborghinis, more than just super cars in fact, it works for anything that falls into that category. So then try to decide for yourself if supercars lessen the gap? Or are they pulling us further apart?  

Lamborghini or Ferrari???

Lamborghini or Ferrari both of these super cars have earned their oil in the prestigious exotic car world! But which is better? well there are good arguments supporting both sides of this "great debate"! Ferrari has more control, but the Lamborghini has a bigger engine and goes faster. Lamborghini has a more exclusive reputation, but Ferrari is an acclaimed car more deeply rooted in a wider range of the upper class citizens.
  This war between Lamborghini and Ferrari goes way back, to two Italian speed junkies; Ferruccio Lamborghini and Enzo Ferrari, Enzo had been making super cars for a while now but Ferruccio wished to see a better product. So Ferruccio started producing Lamborghini cars, and animosity was borne. Through the decades the two cars have been competing and building on each other, with advancements in technology and materials the cars got faster and more reliable. Today it is hard to say which car is better, because both cars are very extreme.

Serious wheels is a web sight that is all about "Serious Wheels Classic, Sports & Muscle Cars" this sight is adamant about the rubber and steel.  Serious wheels is the epitome of a cool car web sight because it  is very easy to navigate, the layout is at least mildly pleasing, and it is chalk full of information. you can search for practically any car that sparks your interest; Bentley, Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Maserati, and anything in between! you can search by first letter of model or company, and find information on specific aspects of the cars and even pictures. However amidst all the great features of this web sight i seem to have failed in finding the creator, publisher, or copyright date for this sight. i still do, however, believe this is a credible sight and it has great information to offer to someone willing too give it a gander!

           In the wonderful world of exotic super cars, life couldn't be better. Say for example i am a very rich CEO of a major oil company and i decide i want a new car. But being the excessive poster child of today's American life, i can't just have any old car on the lot, you know. So i ride on down the the exotic car lots in the cleaner part of the city, and i purchase a new Lamborghini for around $500,000. okay, well now i have one more step on all those lower class people that cant afford such luxuries, and more importantly i have that exclusive ticket that gets me into all of those cool parties and makes me acceptable in those circles. But what I'm focusing on this week, is the fact that my new Lamborghini wont be new forever, and what will i need to buy twenty years from now (hopefully i am a young CEO), to remain in that upper crust of society.
           The new Bugatti Veyron sells for about $1,700,000, but don't let that drop your jaw because the Veyron can accelerate from zero to sixty miles per hour in 2.6 seconds! and it tops out at about 253 miles per hour. i guess that's what you get from the most expensive (available car) in the world today. Moving down the list to the seconded most expensive car in the world we have the Lamborghini Reventon. Now this car is not quite as fast as the Veyron but is by no measure a slow car, it in fact has a top speed of 240 miles per hour and a price tag of $1,600,000. One of the main reasons this car is one the top of the list is because of its rarity, there are only 20 made each year. As fascinating as these cars are they well, in not much time, be out of date and their technology will be obsolete. new ideas such as hydro cars (that can still reach speeds of over 200 miles per hour), or alternative fuel cars (that can till match to acceleration of the Veyron), will need to step into the spotlight of modern super cars.
